OUTDOOR RINKS DRAFT MANUAL OPEN FOR COMMENT
The O.R.F.A. recently held its first Facilities Operational Forum [FOF] at the Campus Ice Centre in Oshawa. Creating and maintaining “Outdoor ice Rinks” was a popular session. A draft copy of O.R.F.A'S outdoor rink manual was distributed during this presentation. O.R.F.A members are encouraged to review the draft manual and send any comments to comments@orfa.com.
NOTE: “Guidelines for Creating and Maintaining Outdoor Ice” is a preliminary draft. It has not been formally released by the O.R.F.A. and should not be construed to represent Association recommended best practice. Recent cold snaps here in Ontario have brought some hope though, as fingers stay crossed so to make the most this winter and of a favourite outdoor pastime.

Snow Operations
For those facilities dependent on ski and snowmaking operations temperatures have not been so desirable, as Blue Mountain Ski Resort was forced to lay off 1300 employees earlier in January but hope to open soon with signs of the white stuff.

Snowlifts (TSSA) Owners and operators of ski facilities with chair lifts are reminded of the following directors order from the Technical Standards Safety Authority [more…] all owners of chair lifts, with grips, hangers or chairs manufactured by BM Lifts Limited shall conform to the requirements set forth in the attached manufacturers Service Bulletin dated April 17.
