COVID-19 Staffing Issues

Wednesday, April 29, 2020, Online

Business closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in difficult and unprecedented staffing challenges for employers across Ontario. Given the province wide shutdown of non-essential businesses, recreational facility employers must now consider the legal and practical impact of staffing disruptions on their operations. These employers should be aware of the potential risks and pitfalls associated with temporary layoffs, recalls and other COVID-19 related staffing issues.

The session will also provide practical tips and resources for drafting employee communications and maintaining staff morale.

  • Managing temporary-layoffs and preserving the employment relationship under Ontario law
  • Facilitating the recall process and returning employees to productive work
  • Addressing work refusals
