Keeping playgrounds and park spaces in good working order comes down to regular inspection, timely repairs, and consistent maintenance. From playgrounds and splash pads to skate parks to outdoor fitness areas and even interactive public art projects - front line staff play a critical role in identifying and addressing issues before they become larger problems.

This full-day virtual workshop is designed to provide practical, field-focused guidance that supports day-to-day inspection and maintenance responsibilities across a range of park assets.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Front line inspection and maintenance staff, supervisors, and managers responsible for inspection, record keeping, repair, and upkeep of parks and open spaces.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

  • How playgrounds and park standards have evolved and how they apply today
  • Key elements of the CSA Standard and how it impacts your work
  • Understanding liability, due diligence, and roles/responsibilities
  • Identifying common hazards
  • Inspection best practices (routine, periodic, and seasonal)
  • Recognizing common maintenance issues, emerging patterns, and prioritizing repairs
  • Proactive vs reactive maintenance approaches
  • How has playspace design changed since standards came into place?
  • Do naturalized playspaces fit into the CSA framework?
  • Documentation, record keeping, and reporting best practices
  • Signage—when it helps and when it doesn’t
