ORFA News
Toronto, Ontario, April 22, 2026 – The Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) and The Wilcock Family are pleased to announce a three-year 1-million-dollar collaboration that will result in the modernization of industry leading training that leads to the ORFA Certified Ice Technician (CIT) professional designation recognized by the National Hockey League.
In celebration and as a legacy project of the 30th anniversary of the passing of Doug Moore, Canada’s Ice Man, daughter Deborah Wilcock has generously provided a donation to ensure the spirit of Doug Moore’s original desire to share information that leads to the profession of the ice making industry will be in strong standing for generations of practitioners to come. The Wilcock Family stands side-by-side the ORFA with the update and modernization of these strategic deliverables.
Amy Gangl, ORFA President and Chair of the Board of Directors, says that “we are humbled by this extraordinary show of support and profoundly grateful to The Wilcock Family for this incredible commitment to the ORFA. A gift of this magnitude redefines what is possible for us as we strive to meet our current strategic plan deliverables. It allows us to accelerate our efforts to develop and deliver quality professional development opportunities to increase effectiveness of industry practitioners, ensuring our impact on the recreation facilities profession will be felt for generations. The Wilcock Family has demonstrated unparalleled generosity. This speaks volumes about their belief in our work, and we are committed to honouring that trust and supporting our vision to be the leader in the recreation facilities profession.”
Deborah Wilcock, shares that “the history between The Wilcock Family and the ORFA reaches back to the 1970’s when, my father, Doug Moore first connected with the Ontario Arenas Association. Doug realized that his passion for researching and developing industry products, techniques and technologies could only be truly embraced as industry best practice, if vetted and supported by an organization that had no real financial stake in the growth. Doug’s vision was not lost when he left the industry too early - 30 years ago this year and when his shadow, Dave Loverock picked up the challenge and continued the original ambitions of his mentor!
This donation is a legacy to both Doug and Dave’s contributions to the ice industry. The Wilcock Family is proud to bring this relationship full circle by assisting the ORFA in their vision to be the industry leader. “
